Impact of Trauma
For many with high Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) scores, life unfolds under the weight of unresolved trauma, impacting their health, relationships, and future. ACEs include experiences such as abuse or neglect, witnessing violence, or living in a household with substance use disorder, mental health problems, or instability from parental separation or incarceration. Scientific research has consistently shown that high ACEs scores are linked to a greater risk of chronic health issues, mental health challenges, and reduced life expectancy (Felitti et al., 1998).
Impact on Society
In the USA, an estimated $ 1.4 trillion is spent each year in addressing the downstream effects of childhood trauma (Peterson et al., 2023). Studies show that individuals with high ACEs scores have a 20-year reduction in life expectancy and are up to three times more likely to experience severe health issues, which often incur lifetime costs exceeding hundreds of thousands of dollars. Current data suggest that 63% of the US adult population had 1 or more ACEs and 22% had 4 or more ACEs. The estimated per-person lifetime economic burden are $ 1.4 and $ 4.0 million, respectively (Peterson et al., 2023).
How Neurofeedback can help
Neurofeedback, an EEG based brain training, can directly address the life-altering effects of trauma for individuals with high ACEs scores. Neurofeedback, a proven therapeutic intervention (e.g., Choi, Choi, & Ko, 2023; van der Kolk et al., 2016), has shown remarkable success in regulating the brain’s response to stress, aiding trauma recovery, and supporting healthier, more resilient lives. Even for treatment-resistant individuals, neurofeedback is highly successful with 72.7% of participants no longer meeting the criteria for trauma-related conditions after intervention (van der Kolk et al., 2016).
Neurofeedback Scholarships
Our program provides fully funded neurofeedback training for those who need it the most but lack the financial means. It helps individuals not only resolve their trauma but also to reduce the likelihood of costly, long-term health impacts such as:
- Increased healthcare costs from chronic illness
- Lost productivity due to mental health issues,
- Increased dependency on social services as trauma-impacted individuals face higher risks of poverty, homelessness, and
Help individuals to reclaim control over their lives & health.
